The Project
During a 2 week course of Testing Interactions in the 2nd year, the whole class of 8 students was led by the Lead Product Designer of the company Furlenco, online furniture renting company. This project was assigned to us in order to find a solution and minimize the difference of no. of orders and no. of searches between the website and the app.
Project Manager- Sanket Kulkarni
Objective
The first step was to define the objectives of this project, and they are as follows:-
1. To understand and analyze whether the current categorization is a viable information model for the users.
2. To see if the users are able to navigate their desired product using the current sub-categorization.
Methods Used
We as a group then went on to decide what user-testing methods had to be used to determine the problem. The methods we finalized were the card-sorting method and the think-aloud method.
Card Sorting Method-To evaluate the current information model of the Furlenco mobile app.
Think Aloud Method-TTo understand the thought process of users regarding the sub-categorization.
Our target audience was the users who are a bachelor or married between the age of 20-40 years. We chose this set of people as our target audience as there is a high chance for this set of people to move out of the home and stay in different locations. This generally would happen due to various factors like studies, jobs, live-in relationships, marriage, etc.
Think Aloud Method
For this method, We interviewed 5 users.
Key Findings & Insights:-
1. Most users went through the subcategories only after being told.
2. Explore Products’ was the most used page
3. Other products were chosen by mistake and it confused the users.
4. Confusion about the total amount of items in the cart.
Card Sorting Method
For this method, We interviewed 10 or so users.
Key Findings & Insights
1. Users were confused about the categorization of combos with both furniture and appliances.
2. 50% of users were confused about the categorization of ‘Bounce’ as it’s multifunctional.
3. Confused about whether to categorize according to the name or picture.
